More and more Science & Studies show that biological and health effects are possible and do happen at very low levels of EMF exposure and that the effect is not limited to energy absorption or heat.

At this date(2025) the scientific world is divided over the question “Does low levels (non-thermal levels in RF, and ELF levels that are far lower than the level that stimulates acute muscle response) non-ionizing radiation cause biological effects, and if exposure to it may lead to some health effect, in particular cancer.

There is growing research showing that non-ionizing radiation, especially radiofrequency, can affect and harm biological systems at levels far below current safety standards.

Many trust the World Health Organization, ICNIRP, and environmental agencies, or professionals who echo their reassuring guidelines. However, these standards focus mainly on thermal (heating) effects and often ignore non-thermal biological impacts—despite hundreds of studies showing harm at much lower levels.

Some key studies supporting these safety claims have serious flaws in methodology and radiation measurement, such as using slow meters that miss rapid radiation peaks likely to affect biology. Averaging radiation over time also masks true exposure.

Therefore, careful, high-quality measurements and independent research are essential to understanding the full picture—rather than blindly trusting possibly outdated or biased regulators or studies claiming “everything is safe” while encouraging continued exposure.

EMF Science & Studies – 2 Sides, 2 approaches

Organizations such as IEEE, ICNIRP, WHO EMF PROJECT, the FCC, the FDA, and others lead the approach that EMF does not have biological or health effects, based on the assumption that only very high levels of exposure can lead to possible risk is a short term.

On the other end, there are organizations such as the WHO-IARC, RNCNIRP , ICEMS , European Parliament, the COUNCIL OF EUROPE, and others, concluded that there are biological effects to low levels of EMF exposure (both RF and ELF magnetic fields) and there is some risk that long term exposure to even very low EMF level can lead to health risks such as the risk to Cancer.

The base of the “All OK” approach is no longer valid

The wireless/cellular industry, and other organization with interests, use and feed the approach that “all is OK and there is nothing to worry about” since to their view there is no scientific proof to the fear of the possible health risk associated with exposure to EMF radiation, other than the immediate life-threatening, short term effect when exposed to very high levels of EMF (for example the heating effect of high levels of RF).

This is entirely not true. According to studies in these fields, both magnetic fields from electric infrastructure, in 2001, and RF in 2011, have been declared “a possible carcinogenic” by the WHO-IARC. If there was no risk whatsoever, the IARC would not have come to the conclusion that both RF and ELF are “a possible carcinogenic”. In addition, both in RF and ELF, there are studies that show both biological effects in low-level short-term exposure and epidemiological studies that show a possible link between exposure and health effects (including Cancer).

What is behind the “all OK” approach and is it true?

Those who support the approach that there is no possible health risk usually argue that RF and ELF photons do not have enough energy to damage DNA, and therefore it is 100% safe. Well, that is obviously a simplification of the reality in which other, less direct mechanisms affect and damage biological systems when radiated by RF and ELF-EMF. SALFORD showed in 2003 that the blood-brain barrier is damaged when the brain is being irradiated with RF radiation. This BBB damage causes other neurological damage to the brain. FRIDMAN showed in 2007 the mechanism in which free radicals are created when tissue is irradiated with RF radiation. Free radicals can lead to DNA breaks. Henry Lai showed in his research from 1998 that DNA breaks do occur when DNA is being irradiated with “safe” levels of RF radiation.

in fact, the recent NTP study(High-quality rodents exposure to RF studies that were carried out by the NTP program in the USA health department) from 2018 and 2019, disproved this approach altogether when they showed that rodents that were exposed to RF had more cancer and more DNA damage, even though the exposure level did not cause any heating effect.

More and more studies show a possible health risk

The scientific base that supports the assumption that EMF exposure has biological effects and can lead to health effects, in the long run, is getting bigger and bigger. It shows several biological effects that are caused after a rather short-term exposure to low levels of EMF, such as the case of the ELF magnetic field from electric infrastructure and appliances, and to RF radiation from wireless devices, mobile phones, WIFI equipment, cellular masts, and more.

Warning signs and declarations

Through the years, several governments, committees and international bodies issues warning regarding exposure to RF and ELF EMF / EMR radiation. As more studies and more proof are becoming clear and widespread, more and more warnings have been issued, and more reports have concluded that chronic exposure to RF and ELF fields is not healthy and can have health effects that are not related to the heat effect. This is while other governments, committees, and international bodies consider EMF radiation is “not dangerous” and while the industry continues to push for more and more wireless technologies worldwide.

Do we know enough?

The academic and public debate on this issue has been at its peak in the last few years. We think that even today, the ever-growing body of studies should be enough to accept the notion that there are biological effects to EMF exposure at low levels that don’t cause a heating effect. We think that the science today already proves the assumption that the only effect of RF is heat generated in the tissue, is no longer valid or acceptable as the basis for safety standards.

We believe that the potential danger of EMF, alongside the increasing number of people being hurt by it, some developing EHS(Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity) condition, calls for drastic measures to reduce EMF exposure and usage of Radio Frequency emitting devices, both on the government level and especially on the personal level.
