Occupational Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields
Occupational Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields

Preview

On this page, we present a number of studies on occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields. This exposure is usually characterized by high daily levels, but it affects a small, healthy population of working age.

Like military exposure, occupational exposure to non-ionizing radiation involves people who are usually healthy and of working age, exposed chronically and daily to levels of non-ionizing radiation that are sometimes very high. Here too, the exposure may be of a kind that has not yet reached most of the population. Studies in this field therefore in a sense predict the results of exposing the whole population to similar types of non-ionizing radiation, once these technologies come into widespread use.

  1. Finnish-French team – Occupational Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields Increases the Risk of Pancreatic Cancer
This interesting study is a meta-analysis of 91 different studies on pancreatic cancer and occupational exposure. The study showed that occupational exposure to magnetic fields led uo to a 1.4-fold excess risk of pancreatic cancer, compared with various other types of exposure.

  2. Israeli team, Dr. Yael Stein, Prof. Richter, 2011 – Occupational Exposure to Non-Ionizing Radiation Shortens the Latency Period of Cancer and Accelerates Its Development
A new Israeli study, published in the respected scientific journal “European Journal of Oncology”, was presented two months ago to the IARC committee (which eventually decided to classify radio frequency radiation as possibly carcinogenic to humans). It raises the suspicion that in people who were occupationally exposed to non-ionizing radiation, including during military service, the latency period of their cancer was shorter than usual and its development was faster.

  3. Michael Peleg, Israel – Report of 5 Cancer Cases at the Rafael Antenna Range
A summary report of 5 cancer cases among young workers (out of 30 workers) who worked at the Rafael antenna range in Israel. They were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 34 and 48.

    – Occupational exposure of electronics technicians to radio frequency radiation.
  4. Israel, Iris Atzmon, 2012 – Iris Atzmon’s Isifya Study
The study examined the link between hundreds of cancer cases discovered around the 2000s and several factors, including distance from cellular and other broadcasting sites. No link was found between the cancers and distance from the antennas, but a link was found between occupational exposure to chemicals and electronics and cancer risk (all sites: OR 2.79; CI 1.14-6.82).
