Minimizing exposure in your Car is very important in case you are aware of the possible health effect of such exposure or in case you already feel bad when exposed (an EHS person). In this chapter, we will review the sources in the car and ways to reduce exposure.

Most of us spend a few hours a week (if not more) in our Car.   A car is a machine that has an electric, electronic component and parts which emit ELF magnetic and electric fields. Some of the car equipment also emit RF radiation. In addition to that, when driving the car you are exposed to what EMF exists on and near the road, mainly RF radiation from cellphone towers and ELF magnetic and electric fields from power lines. Exposure reduction in the car is extremely important for Electromagnetic Hypersensitive people. In order to reduce exposure to EMF in the car, I recommend doing the following steps.
Since I understand the possible health risk of EMF exposure and because I was already hurt by the exposure to it and I suffer from exposure to even very low levels, my recommendation might be considered very strict. Please also read – EMF In Cars

Before you buy

1. Test before you buy

Test the car before buying using your EMF meter both for RF and ELF sources inside the car.
Please read this article before you do so  – EMF In Cars

2. Buy the best lowest EMF car

I recommend buying a car that has the lowest levels of ELF magnetic fields.

3. Good ELF levels for a car

I try to select the car that has an ELF level of below 2mG on the sets, Below 10 mG on the pedals.

4. Good RF levels in a car

I try to select cars that don’t have RF emitting device inside, if it does, I make sure these devices can be turned off or that it is possible to turn off the transmission from them.

WIFI & Bluetooth can be turned OFF

5. Make sure RF devices can be changed

I also make sure that devices that emit RF inside the car and can’t be turned off can be removed or changed with devices that use wired technology or that their RF transmission can be turned OFF

Steps to reduce EMF exposure in the car

1. Test for RF & ELF

Test the RF and ELF magnetic fields in the car, please read EMF In Cars

2. Good ELF levels

Make sure the ELF exposure is lower then 2mG on the sits, face, and body and lower than 10 mG on the feet.

3. Turn Off Wireless devices

Turn off the wireless transmissions from all RF emitting devices that are in the car.

4. Remove RF devices that can be removed

Remove and exchange the RF devices in the car that their RF emission can’t be turned OFF.

5. Turn Off Wireless devices that can be turned OFF

Turn Off all wireless devices that you bring into the car.
Turn Off your smartphone or put it Airplane mode.
Install a GPS/DVD/FM Radio system, that allows you to turn off all it wireless capabilities. This system will allow you to have GPS navigation and listen to music or radio without RF emission as in the case of smartphone navigation apps.

Special steps for EHS people

1. Use RF Protection Hats

Use RF Protection Hats (legionnaire hat is recommended) to protect the hard and neck.

For extreme cases of EHS ( and in my case) you can consider using a full face protection hat, like the one in the picture bellow

2. Use RF Protection on the upper body

Use RF Protection Jacket or/and Scarf to protect the upper body

3. Use RF Protection Film over the Windows

Install RF Blocking film over the sides and back windows, according to your country’s laws and regulations.

In the following video I show the effect of the RF protection film (on side and back windows) on the RF exposure inside the car, in cases that the RF is coming from a single cell tower outside the car.
