Today Schools have WIFI routers, wireless laptops and tablets and some of them make use of the students’ own devices (usually smartphones). In addition, there is the electrical infrastructure. All of these together are the EMF sources in schools.

EMF Sources in schools

We send our kids to schools hoping they will be safe there. The school system usually does it best to keep our children safe, but as far as EMF exposure the school system is doing a very poor job.

Around the world, schools have been installing WIFI routers and access points that exposure the children to EMF radiation all day long. In addition, the use of wireless devices(laptops and tablets) and smartphones inside the school premises and classes, as part of the learning process or as a “way to pass time when the kids don’t want to listen”, creates even more RF radiation in the school.

In addition to that, there is RF exposure from nearby cell towers. In some schools, the cell towers are installed on the school campus. The reason usually given for that is that they are needed in order “to supply the demand” in the school itself.

In addition to that, there is ELF-EMF exposure from electrical systems and infrastructure.

In most countries, the so-called “safety standards” allow very high exposure levels. Far higher than the level causing biological changes and elevating health risk from chronic exposure. In most cases, the RF levels are not even measured correctly, because of the use of slow sampling rate meters and old measuring technics that are not relevant to today’s fast pulsing RF sources.

In some cases, students start to suffer from exposure to EMF, especially to RF radiation from smartphones, laptops, tablets, WIFI routers, and access points, and the nearby cell tower. But in most cases, the school management will say “The levels far below the safety standards, and are safe”. In drastic cases students and teachers become sick with EHS or other health issues, or that their health becomes worse.

In other cases, the schools’ management and parents understand the risk and act to reduce the exposure.

The status In Israel (2020)

If you don’t know by now, we are located in Israel. So I feel obligated to update on the status here. Since 2012 the education ministry in Israel has been deploying and installing WIFI routers in schools alongside pushing the use of smartphones, wireless lampposts, and tablets inside the schools in an attempt to modernist the learning process.
In 2013 we(a group of parents and activists) filled a case to the supreme court. This case was dismissed after 3 years of discussions. The ministry of education is still (2020) pushing for WIFI, laptops, and tablets, while the use of smartphones has been heavily crisscrossed, and might even be halted, but not because of the radiation emission, more because of the problematic increase in screen time and the awareness to the screen time, smartphone abuse, addiction, shaming and offensive use of smartphones.

Regarding the radiation test being done in schools, other than a small change in the procedure (when the ministry of Environment Protection endorse 3 out of 10 changes we at www.norad4u.com have asked for, in the test procedure) the RF test procedure is still a “all OK” procedure, in many times not even noticing the emission from wireless devices and WIFI routers inside the classes, and measuring only part of the RF from nearby cell tower.

EHS kids are been neglected in schools. As far as we know, no effort is done in order to help them attend the schools. In most cases, the schools’ management and/or the ministry of education do not believe the parents or the kids when they complain about headaches or other symptoms from the EMF exposure at the school.
