Do cellphones emit EMR when in standby mode?

A - Yes, in the following cases: 

  • most cellphones will communicate to the closest base station (antenna) and will report their status once in a while. 
  • If you receiver emails or SMS messages to your cellphone, this will result in a transmission and emission for several seconds when the messages are received or when the phone sync with the network.
  • If you have a third generation cellphone or a smart phone and you run applications that access the web, your phone will transmit and receive data from the cellular network and will emit EMR will doing that.
