So many types and units?One of the reasons for the confusion around Electromagnetic none ionizing radiation must be the many types of it and the different units in which we measure each and every type of EMR.
ELF types and unitsEextrem Low Frequency EMR has 2 types of fields: Electric and Magnetic fields. The electric filed is usually left a side unattended, but the units are Volt per meter (V/m). The magnetic fields has 2 units: milli Gouse(mG) and microTesla(UT) The conversion between the 2 is very simple: 10mG=1uT
RF types and unitsWhen referring to Radio Frequency (High Frequency) Electromagnetic none ionizing radiation there are 2 types of fields: Electric and Magnetic fields. This time the Magnetic field is usually left out. The Electric field is measured in units of Volt per meter (V/m). When measuring RF radiation you usually measure the Electric field or The power density. The power density is measured in units of mW/m2 or uW/cm2.
Conversion from Electric Field to RF power densityIt is possible to convert between the Electric field and the power density, but only in the far field.
